Uncertainty of mass in kg

Asked by maham237 @ in Physics viewed by 322 People

Suppose that your bathroom scale reads your mass as 65 kg with a 3% uncertainty. what is the uncertainty in your mass (in kilograms)?

Answered by maham237 @

If a measurement A is expressed with uncertainty, δA, the percent uncertainty (%unc) is calculated by the formula

{\%}una = \frac{\delta A}{A}100{\%}

Given ,  A= 65kg , {\%} una = 3 {\%}

Therefore,

3{\%}= \frac{\delta A}{65 kg} 100{\%}

or

\delta A= \frac{3{\%}}{100{\%}} \times 65kg =1.95 kg

Thus, the uncertainty in mass is 1.95 kg
