This short story is the most famous work by Hernando Téllez is, Columbian journalist and author. The story depicts the inner conflict of a barber. He is shaving the captain of a military unit who has to be considered an archenemy for him. The captain imprisoned and killed some of his comrades. The barber is having thoughts of killing the captain by slitting his throat and then to shave his face. However, he does not want to be stained in blood, but instead of that only in lather. In the end when captain leaves he reveals that the barber wanted to kill him and he wanted to check it was true or not.
