The Gandhi-Irwin Pact was an agreement signed on the 5th of March in the year 1931, between Gandhiji who was then the leader of the Indian Nationalist Movt. and Lord Irwin then the British viceroy of British India.
This agreement indicated the end of the Civil Disobedience Movt. or Satyagraha in India against the British reign which Gandhiji and his followers had started with the Salt March (nonviolent protest action from March to April 1930 against the British imposition on Indians for prohibiting the production or sale of salt, and instead Indian were forced to by imported, heavily taxed salt from the British).
'Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru' was a famous Indian freedom fighter, politician and the leader of the Liberal party, lawyer and a prominent figure in India's independence struggle, and he had helped draft the 'Indian Constitution'.
'Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru' along with Dr. Jayakar, played the role of a mediator and enabled the Gandhi-Irwin Pact which was signed in the year 1931. Through thus pact all political prisoners had been released and in return Gandhiji agreed to withdraw the Civil Disobedience Movt.
