with what speed should a body be thrown upwards so that the distance traversed in 5th second and 6th second are equal

Answered by admin @

When a body is thrown upward, it experience a constant force due to gravity. So, this situation is only possible when it reaches at maximum height in 5 seconds where the final velocity becomes zero. Only then it can traversed same distance in 5th and 6th second.

Now, using the first equation of motion, we get:

v= u + at

Where v= final velocity, u= initial velocity, t= time, and a= acceleration due to gravity.

So,

v= 0, t= 5, and a= -g= -10

Putting these value in the first equation of motion, we get:

0= u + (-10)*5

0= u -50

u= 50

Therefore, to traverse the same distance in 5th second and 6th second, the body should be thrown upwards with an initial velocity of 50 m/s.
