The RMS value of the current can be given by Irms = √[(I₁² + I₂²)/2] Explanation :
Given,
I = I₁coswt + I₂sinwt
we know that sin of a function can be written in terms of cos
hence,
I = I₁coswt + I₂cos(wt - 90)
here the component I₂cos(wt - 90) is lagging the component I₁coswt by 90 degree,
So there vector sum can be written as,
I = √(I₁² + I₂² + 2I₁I₂cos90)
=> I = √(I₁² + I₂²)
=> Irms = √[(I₁² + I₂²)/2]
Hence the RMS value of the current can be given by Irms = √[(I₁² + I₂²)/2]
