The reading of voltmeter has to be found out.

Calculating the equivalent resistance for circuit, since the resistance and voltmeter are in parallel

                   R_{ eq }=\frac { { R }_{ 1 }{ R }_{ 2 } }{ { R }_{ 1 }+{ R }_{ 2 } }

                   =\frac { 40\times 60 }{ 40+60 } =\frac { 2400 }{ 100 }

                   =24 ohms;

Adding resistance in series total resistance becomes 24+40 = 64

Now I=\frac { V }{ R } putting the values \frac { 6 }{ 64 }=0.0937 Ampere;

Now the current across voltmeter = 0.0562 and voltmeter reading thus becomes

                   0.0562 \times 40 (since I \times R=V) = 2.25 V.
