A spring mass system oscillates with a frequency v

Asked by admin @ in Physics viewed by 293 People

A spring-mass system oscillates with a frequency ν. If it is taken in an elevator slowly accelerating upward, the frequency will

(a) increase
(b) decrease
(c) remain same
(d) become zero.

Using the formula,

Time Period (T) = 2π√(m/k)

Since, time period of the spring mass system does not depends upon the acceleration, thus time period remains the same.

Time period of the simple pendulum changes due to change in acceleration. It is spring-mass system, in this, T does not depends upon acceleration.

Also, Time period = 1/Frequency,

since Time period does not changes, therefore frequency is also constant.

Hence, Option (c). is correct.

Hope it helps.
