Hii friend,

# Complete question should be-

The first ball of mass m moving with a velocity v collides head on with the second ball of mass m at rest.If the coefficient of restitution is e,then what is the ratio of the velocities of the first and the second ball after the collision?

# Answer-

v1/v2=(1-e)/(1+e)

# Explanation-

Let,the 1st ball will move with a velocity of v1 and the 2nd one with v2 after the collision.

By law of conservation of momentum

mv+m.0=mv1+mv2

v=v1+v2 ...(1)

In this case coefficient of restitution

e=(v2-v1)/v

ev=v2-v1 ...(2)

Solving (1) & (2)

v1=v(1-e)/2

v2=v(1+e)/2

v1/v2=(1-e)/(1+e)

Hope this is useful...
