How does the bill of rights protect individuals' civil liberties apex?

The bill of rights sets a clear limitations on government's power on the citizens including judicial and other proceedings. The bill makes it clear that all powers not specifically delegated to Congress by the Constitution is reserved for the states or the people. The American people wanted a strong guarantees that the new government wouldn't trample on their newly won freedoms of speech, press and religion, nor upon their right to be free from warrantless searches and seizures. Containing the government's power and protecting civil liberty was the most important element of the bill. The bill was meant to protect the citizens in a number of areas including: Freedom of Religion-- the government has no right to dictate what religion the citizens are to adhere to; Due Process and Equality Before the Law, every American has to be tried fairly in legal proceedings, Freedom of Speech, Press, Petition, and Assembly and many more.
