one mole of an ideal gas at 300 k is expanded isothermally from an initial volume of 1 litre to 10 litres. the δe for this process is (r = 2 cal mol¯¹ k¯¹) (aipmt, 1998)

Answered by admin @

One mole of an ideal gas at 300 k is expanded isothermally from an initial volume of 1 litre to 10 litres. Since it is isothermal process,the temperature remains constant during this process. Now internal energy is only function of temperature only. Change in internal energy will be zero as temperature does not change during this process.

In this process,

W=nRTln(final temp/initial temp)

=1*2*300ln(10)

=600*2.303=1381.8 cal/molK
