LACTOSE FERMENTERS (LF): Utilizing lactose to produce Acid and give low pH of agar <6.8 which give red/pink colonies, e.g.,Escherichia coli,Enterobacter, Klebsiella.
NON-LACTOSE FERMENTERS (NLF): Cannot utilize lactose; Use peptone to form ammonia and raises pH of agar which gives white/colorless colonies, e.g., Salmonella, Proteus, Shigella.
