The charge on 500 cc of water due to protons wil be

Answered by admin @

Answer ⇒ The charge due to protons in 500 cc of water is 2.67 × 10⁴ C

Explanation ⇒

In 500 cm³ of water, density of water is 100 kg/m³.

∴ Mass of the water = density × volume

∴ Mass = 1000 × 500/1000000 kg.

∴ Mass = 5/10 kg.

∴ Mass = 0.5 kg.

No. of moles of water = Mass/Molar mass.

∴ No. of moles = 0.5/18

∴ No. of moles = 0.0278 moles.

Now, one molecules of water contains, 2(from hydrogen) + 8(from oxygen.) = 10 electrons

∴ No. of electrons in one atom = 10 = No. of protons in 1 atom.

Now, no. of atom = no. of moles × Avogadro's number.

∴ no. of electrons = no. of moles × Avogadro's number × 10

∴ no. of protons = 0.0278 × 6.022 × 10²³ × 10

∴ no. of protons = 1.67 × 10²³

∴ Charge due to these protons = 1.67 × 10²³ × 1.6 × 10⁻¹⁹ C.

= 2.67 × 10⁴ C.

Hence, the charge due to protons in 500 cc of water is 2.67 × 10⁴ C.

Hope it helps.
