Burning of wax is considered to be both physical and chemical change, There are two process taking place when a candle burns:
( 1 ) The melting of wax - The candle is all made up of wax, when the candle is lit, heat is produced, when this heat produced, the wax, melts and drops down. After the wax drops down, this melting state is in liquid form, wax is generally solid, as the state is changing, it is a reaction. The melted wax cools and turns back into solid again. As this reaction is reversible, it is called physical change.
( 2 ) When you light the candle, the wax present near the wick melts and gets absorbed by the wick by the capillary action. This melted wax vaporizes due to the heat and gets transformed into carbon-dioxide, carbon soot, etc. This is an irreversible change, so it is considered as a chemical change.
