A linear harmonic oscillator of force constant 2x10 6

Asked by admin @ in Physics viewed by 293 People

A linear harmonic oscillator of force constant 2×10^6 n/m, amplitude=0.01m and total mechanical energy=160j. Find the maximum p.E. And k.E.

Answered by admin @

Force constant = 2×10^6 n/m

Amplitude = 0.01m

Mechanical energy = 160j

From proven calculation,

Maximum potential energy = Total Mechanical energy

At present state total mechanical energy is given and which is 160j

Therefore, maximum P.E will be 160j at the instant when K.E = 0

For Maximum K.E = ½*k*a^2

                             = ½*2x10^6*(0.01^2)

                                     = 100J
