water in canal 3m wide and 1.2m deep flowing with a speed of 10 km/hr. how much area will it irrigate in 30 minutes if 8cm of standing water is required?

Given, width d canal = 30 dm = 300 cm = 3m [1 dm = 10 cm and 1 m = 100 cm]
Depth of canal = 12 dm = 120 cm = 1.2 m
Given, water is flowing with velocity of 10 km/h.
∴ Length of water column formed in 1/2 hour=1/2*10
= 5 km = 5000 m
Hence volume of water flowing in 1/2hour
= Volume of cuboid of length 5000 m, width 3m and depth 1.2m
= 5000 × 3 × 1.2 m3 = 18000 m3
Let A m2 be the area irrigated in 1/2hour then,
x × 8 cm = 18000 m3
x=225000m squate
Hence, the canal irrigates 225000 m2 area in 1/2hour.
