Why do chlorine has highest electron affinity than fluorine?

Chlorine has the highest electron affinity because the electron affinity of fluorine is little less . The EA of fluorine is less due to its compact size as a result of which incoming electrons face repulsion .
EXPLANATION :
Electron affinity is the energy released when an atom in the gaseous state accepts electron .
EA decreases down the group and increases left to right in a period .
Chlorine has more size than fluorine because it has an additional/extra number of shell than fluorine .
This is why fluorine is really small an compact and any atom which approaches fluorine will face repulsion due to which there will be less energy release .
Hence electron affinity of chlorine is more and in fact it has the highest EA .
