When salt dissolves in water, what type of substance is formed?

Answered by admin @

Answer:

            When Salt dissolves in water a homogeneous mixture is formed, because the different components are mixed evenly within the substance.

Explanation:

                   When solute is dissolved in solvent then a mixture is formed. This resulting mixture can be Homogeneous or Heterogeneous. Homogeneous mixtures results when the solute particles are uniformly distributed throughout  the mixture while, in heterogeneous mixture the solute particles are unevenly distributed.

                   Therefore, water soluble salts when added to water dissociates into corresponding cations and anions as,

                                MN    --------water-------->   M⁺₍aq₎  +  N⁻₍aq₎

Where;

           MN  =  Salt

           M⁺  =  Cation

           N⁻  =  Anion

           aq  =  dissolved in water

After dissociation the cations formed interact with the partial negative oxygen atom of water molecule and anions interacts with the partial positive hydrogen atom of water molecules respectively. Hence, these charged ions are uniformly distributed throughout the mixture.
