What is acid and base according to Arrhenius theory?

According to Arrhenius Theory,

Acid --- A substance that contains H⁺ ions when dissolved in water.

Example -- HCl (aq) ------> H⁺(aq) + Cl⁻(aq)

Base --- A substance that contains OH⁻ ions (hydroxyl group) when dissolved in water.

Example -- NaOH (aq) -------> Na⁺ (aq) + OH⁻ (aq)
