Oxygen and Nitrogen exist as diatomic molecules O2 and N2 respectively in the gaseous form. Their molecular masses are 32 and 28 respectively.

Let their masses in the mixture in the container be = m grams and 4m grams respectively.

The numbers of moles of O2 and N2 in the mixture are : m/32 and 4m/28 respectively.

The numbers of molecules of O2 and N2 are: m/32 × N and 4m/28 × N respectively. N is the Avogadro number.

So the ratio of number of molecules is:

mN /32 : 4mN/28
= 7 : 32
