Lipids are the naturally taking place hydrophobic molecules. They are the heterogeneous group of compounds associated with the fatty acids. They comprise oils, fats, phospholipids, waxes, and other components. The lipids are oily or greasy organic components, they are sparingly soluble in water, and are soluble in organic solvents.

The following are the functions of lipids:

1. They are storage compounds, the triglycerides functions as the reserve energy of the body.

2. They are the essential constituents of the cell membranes composition in the eukaryotic cells.

3. They form a waxy covering on the plant leaves, fruit, and young stems known as the cuticle. It is formed of cutin, a wax-like substance generated by the plant, which is chemically a hydroxy fatty acid. The covering helps the plant to retain water.

Hence, the correct answers are options B, D and E.
