Basically the two major fluid compartments of the body are the intracellular and extracellular compartments.The intracellular compartments are the space within cells.They are separated from the extracellular compartments by the CELL MEMEBRANE.

Majority of volume of water is stored in the extracellular compartments apart from the cystosol in muticellular organisms.

The extracellular fluid is divided into 3 types

INTERSTITIAL FLUIDS of interstitial compartments(fluids surrounding body tissues and cells)

INTRAVASCULAR COMPARTMENT:blood plasma and lymph

TRANCELLULAR FLUIDS of he ocular and cerebrospinal fluids.

The interstitial and intravascular exchanged materials because of the proximity.The transcellular compartments is separated from the two,and not in dynamic equilibrium with them.
