The pathway of water from soil to xylem is:

(c) soil – root hair – cortex – endodermis – pericycle – protoxylem – metaxylem

The water from the soil goes to the root hair.

It then goes to the cortex which is the outermost part of the stem.

It then gets transported to the endodermis that regulates the water that gets into the plant.

From here it goes to pericycle that is just inside the endodermis.

After that, it goes to protoxylem which is the first formed xylem.

At last, it goes to metaxylem which is involved majorly in the conduction of water.
